  • Confirmation on digging the starter fish tank.

Hello, I’m almost going to dig the starter tank based on the iAVs course book. I’ve never dug a fish tank before so if someone could this confirm my plan it would give me a lot of comfort.

    I’ve bought a 4m x 4m reinforced industrial grade PVC pond liner.

First I’m going to measure a 1.5m diameter as the outline in a x shape. After marking the points I’m going to outline a circle shape based on the marked points. Then I’m going to dig to 1.2m depth using a chain as a rough guideline on the tank shape.

I think that should be fine ?

Hello, sorry for the late reply, I did not get a notification for some reason….

    1. Shape from Top View:
      • Rectangular with rounded corners
      • This shape maximizes space utilization while eliminating sharp corners that can trap waste
    2. Vertical Cross-Section:
      • Catenary or parabolic curve
      • This shape evenly distributes water pressure and facilitates waste movement towards the center
    • Minimum depth: 60 cm (2 ft)
    • Width-to-depth ratio: Ideally 1:1, maximum 1:1.5
    • Smooth liner installation without folds or creases
    • Grate or mesh netting 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) above the waste extraction zone

    The photo should help.
